An elderly patient with multiple blockages underwent a successful bypass procedure and returned to daily activities within six weeks. Individual outcomes vary.
The patient, aged 72, had been experiencing breathlessness on walking and chest heaviness for several months. After an initial evaluation, they were referred to our cardiology department.
Angiography revealed significant blockages across three major arteries. Given the patient's age and the extent of the blockages, our team determined that bypass surgery (CABG) was the more suitable option over angioplasty.
The surgery was successful, and the patient remained under observation in the hospital for 6 days. They then enrolled in our structured cardiac rehabilitation programme.
Six weeks later, the patient was able to walk in the garden with their grandchildren — something that had felt difficult before the surgery.
