Care guidelines, diet, medications and follow-up advice after angioplasty.
This information is for general guidance only. Always follow the specific instructions given by your doctor.
First 24-48 Hours After Discharge
Take complete rest. Avoid heavy work or exercise.
If there is pain, swelling or bleeding at the catheter site (wrist or groin), contact us immediately.
Drink plenty of water — at least 8-10 glasses — to help flush out the contrast dye.
Do not drive for at least 24 hours.
Medications
Take all medications as prescribed — especially blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin and clopidogrel). Stopping these after a stent placement is dangerous.
Consult your doctor before taking any new medication or stopping any existing one.
Diet
Limit oily and fried foods, red meat, and dairy products.
Include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes in your diet.
Reduce salt intake and avoid processed foods.
Stop smoking completely.
Exercise and Activity
First week: gentle walking only — two to three times a day, 5-10 minutes.
Participate in a cardiac rehabilitation programme if recommended by your doctor.
Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for at least one month.
Follow-up Visits
Attend follow-up appointments as advised — typically at one week, one month, three months, and six months.
Monitor blood pressure and blood sugar levels regularly.
Contact Us Immediately If...

Shortness of breath occurs.
