A patient brought in during an acute cardiac event received emergency angioplasty within 45 minutes of arrival. Individual outcomes vary.
Late at night, a 55-year-old patient arrived at the emergency department with severe chest pain and sweating. The ECG showed clear signs of an acute heart attack in progress.
Our emergency medical team and cath lab team mobilised immediately. Following the principle that time is muscle, emergency angioplasty was performed to clear the blockage.
Only 45 minutes passed between hospital arrival and the blockage being cleared — a window critical to preventing permanent damage to the heart muscle.
The patient was discharged after 3 days and is now participating in a regular cardiac rehabilitation programme.
